ETH Zurich 3D printed reactor cores double solar fuel production

ETH Zurich researchers have developed a 3D-printed ceramic structure for efficient use in solar reactor cores. Using an innovative 3D printing method, they’ve created porous ceramic structures with intricate designs that double the production yield of solar fuels compared to previous designs. ETH spinoffs Climeworks and Synhelion are working to commercialize this technology, having acquired the patent for 3D printing ceramic structures. The project, led by Professors André Studart and Aldo Steinfeld, is funded by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy and holds the potential to significantly improve the economic viability of sustainable aviation fuels.
